Murchison Accommodation Bed and Breakfast Lodge

Murchison is a small township that still retains it's Kiwi charm. It's history is based on gold and farming – interrupted by a massive earthquake in 1929 (see the local museum).

But most visitors find Murchison has much more to offer than being just a convenient stop over - it is also world renowned for the activities it's rivers provide

The kayaking is great! We have 14 runs within an hours drive of the Lodge between class 2 and 4. The NZ kayak school offers instruction, gear hire and guiding services.

White-water rafting? Try Ultimate Descents for good day trips locally as well as muti-day trips on the Karamea.

The area is famous for its brown trout fly-fishing - and its challenges! We can help arrange a fishing guide if you like.

The Buller Gorge is the home of NZ's longest swing bridge. You can take a fantastic jet boat ride here too, pan for gold then return across the river on a comet line!! www.BullerGorge.co.nz

The area offers many local walking tracks - from 10 minute strolls to multi- day tramps.

There are some good biking routes here - we have a couple of bikes for free guest use.

There is a beautiful 9-hole golf course here next to the Buller - we have golf clubs for your (free) use too.

Or just spend the day here – go for a swim in the river (take Kali!); relax with a massage (bookings advisable), spend time in the hammock with a good book - or snooze! The choice is yours.

Day trips out of Murchison

Murchison's central location in the top of the South Island means there are many places that can be visited within about 1.5 hours from here. For example:
  • Nelson/Motuere - Wine tasting, markets, museums, arts & crafts
  • Nelson Lakes National Park - boat trips, many walking options
  • Maruia Springs - waterfalls, walks and thermal hot springs.
  • Pancake Rocks via Buller gorge & seal colony. (Spectacular drive voted in top 10 in world by Lonely Planet AND Rough Guide readers.)
  • Abel Tasman National Park - kayaking, walking, beaches.
  • Marlborough – Winetasting (again!)
But then when it finally comes time to leave Murchison, Merve and Shirley, who have both worked as adventure tour guides, will be happy to help you out with ideas and plans for your onward trip if you need it.
