Set in a central location in the Top of the South Island, Murchison is a great place to base yourself to explore many popular visitor spots whilst on a tour of NZ. The best bit is that at the end of the day you can return to our quiet Kiwi township and get to know the people and the place in a little more depth.
See activity page for more details on what to do around here.
Murchison sits on Buller Gorge Heritage Highway (State Highway 6).
To the NORTH is Nelson. (1.5hrs drive)
To the NORTHWEST is the Abel Tasman National Park. (2hrs)
To the EAST is Blenheim wine country (1hr 45) and Picton. (2hr15)
To the WEST is Westport via the scenic Buller gorge. (1.5hrs)
To the SOUTHEAST is Christchurch via the Lewis Pass and Hanmer Springs. (4hrs)
Within even easier reach are two National Parks. The Nelson Lakes National Park is within 45 mins drive and even closer - just across the Buller - is Kahurangi National Park; New Zealand's second largest at 452,002 ha.
The Lodge itself is down a quiet side road on four acres of secluded grounds, but is only a few minutes walk from the cafes and pubs of the township. (It's even quicker if you use our bikes!) See activity page for more details on what to do around here. | |
